Author Uncovered: Carrie Jones (Author Interview)

Hey peeps! Today, I have Carrie Jones, the other of many books, including one of my favs, Need! Her next book Captivate, will be releasing in January, so keep an eye out!

Her Books:

Her Upcoming Books:

Did you ever base any of your characters on anybody?
Yes. I've based one on actress/comedian Sarah Silverman, one on the man I am totally in love with, and one on my dog. I refuse to tell who is who though.

What do you see as your strengths and weaknesses as an author?
I've always been pretty weak on structure, which is why it's so great that Michelle Nagler is my editor because she is tremendously good at structure.
I tend to fall in love with everyone in my books, which is also a weakness.
I'm a pretty fast writer, so I guess that's a strength. That's because I used to be a reporter and I always tried to get everything done before my daughter, Em, was out of school.

What made you start writing YA?
I started writing YA because I like young adults and it's way more fun than writing newspaper stories about land use setbacks and planning board meetings.
I think when you are a young adult is a time in your life when you're open and exploring what the world is about and who you want to be. That's why so many YA novels are about identity and hope. The truth is that I am still figuring out who I want to be, who I am, and what I'm doing in the world.

I write it because I think young adults deserve the best stories we can give them, and my stories are far from the best, but I'm working at it.Plus, the other YA authors are so cool. Sometimes they let me hold their power cords when we hang out, or get them coffee. YA authors (except me) seem to drink a lot of coffee.

What's the most interesting thing a reader has ever said to you?
That they love me.
I am a sucker for love.

How does it feel being an author?
It's really fun, but sometimes it's lonely sitting in the bat cave and not seeing anyone while I work.

Book you've faked reading:
Great Expectations. I am so sorry Mr. Dickens.

Book you've bought for the cover:
I can not say because the cover was sooooooooooo racy/naughty and my mom could look it up.

Book you're an evangelist for:
Sherman Alexie's THE TOUGHEST INDIAN IN THE WORLD. I am such a fangirl over that book. It's kind of embarrassing. I dropped mine in the tub once and cried.

Anything else you'd like to add?
Just thank you for hosting me! It was so nice of you.

That was a hilarious interview! Thanks so much Carrie for letting me interview you!

I loved her answer for the most interesting thing a reader has ever said to you! Hehe!

Peace, Love, and Interviews,

Loved the interview!

I'm buying Need when I get my next gift certificate to Amazon.com from a contest I won. :) I've been wanting it for so long now.
