Coffeehouse Angel by Suzanne Selfors

Title: Coffeehouse Angel
Author: Suzanne Selfors
Pages: 288
Publisher: Walker Books for Young Readers
Publication Date: July 21, 2009

When Katrina spots a homeless guy sleeping in the alley behind her grandmother’s coffee shop, she decides to leave him a cup of coffee, a bag of chocolate-covered coffee beans, and some pastries to tide him over. Little does she know that this random act of kindness is about to turn her life upside down. Because this adorable vagrant, Malcolm, is really a guardian angel on a break between missions. And he won’t leave until he can reward Katrina’s selflessness by fulfilling her deepest desire. Now if only she could decide what that might be . . .

Katrina's world is already falling apart. Piece by piece; her grandma's coffee shop is losing money because of Java Heaven next door, her counselor thinks she's a failure, and she's on the brink of losing her best friend Vincent to the daughter of Java Heaven's owner. What's a girl to do? When she leaves a cup of coffee and some chocolate-covered coffee beans for a guy sleeping in her alley, he gives her a couple of 'magical beans' to give her what her heart desires. But Malcolm really is an angel, and he won't be able to leave unless she uses the beans. But what is it that she really wants?

Coffeehouse Angel is as much a book on wishes as it is, on finding yourself. It's a light, frothy read that tips the scales on the sweet side with a few angelic undertones. The small town of Nordby sets a cute, quaint backdrop; perfect for a holiday read!

Here, Selfors presents a plethora of cute, individual characters. The elder regulars at the coffee shop are quirky and almost like family towards Katrina and her grandmother. Katrina, herself, is an admirable protagonist, but a little annoying with her whining sometimes. You see her grow as a character and truly finds what she really wants.

Although Malcolm and Katrina's romance with him, was an essential aspect of the story, I still didn't find it quite as believable as it couldn've been. Katrina never got to really know him...the main reason why she is attracted to him was because he was a good-looking angel. A =)

The Bottom Line: This was originally my sister's book but I traded it with her (for Intertwined and The Everafter) after I read it because I loved it so much! Coffeehouse Angel is a light, heart-warming read. It's the perfect book to snuggle up with your cup of coffee!

"It's a light, frothy read - I love your coffee references!
Sucks that the romance wasn't believable, though. I always hate it when that happens in a book.

I really want to read this. Light, frothy reads are perfect for this time of the year, in my opinion!

What you said about the romance is true. I could have believed it more if Katrina had fallen in love with Vincent. The story is cute nevertheless ;)

Great review :D This doesn't really sound like something I would buy, but it sounds like a good read. I might pick it up because I've heard such good things about it.

Sounds very cute! I haven't read many stories where an angel is a main character and this seems like something I would really enjoy.

Looking for a great gift idea or stocking stuffers for co-workers and friends, the new fantasy novel, "Gateway to DreamWorld," released last month, has been receiving rave reviews.

During the cold months ahead, they will curl up in a warm blanket or in front of the fireplace and enter a fantasy world filled with excitement and suspense.

The book is listed on Amazon.com, Barnes&Nobles.com, and Powell’s Books.com

I bet you and your sister have the most amazing book collection :D Anyway, I liked this book, but it's not one of the best ones I've read.
